1. Introduction

Plain Explain ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our contract analysis service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect:

  • Account information (e.g. email, name) when you sign up
  • Documents you upload (e.g. PDF contracts or leases) for analysis
  • Usage data (e.g. scan history, feature usage) necessary to provide the Service
  • Payment information processed by our payment provider (we do not store full card details)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide, maintain, and improve the Service; to process your scans and deliver analysis; to manage your account and payments; and to communicate with you (e.g. transactional emails). We do not sell your personal information or your contract content.

4. Temporary Storage of Files

Files you upload (e.g. PDFs) are temporarily stored for processing only. We retain your uploaded documents only for as long as necessary to complete the analysis and deliver your results. After processing, files are deleted in accordance with our retention schedule. We do not use your uploaded content for any purpose other than fulfilling your analysis request.

5. Use of OpenAI and No Training on Your Data

Our analysis is powered by AI models provided by OpenAI. We send relevant text from your documents to OpenAI's API solely to generate your red-flag report, obligations summary, and plain-language explanations. We do not allow OpenAI to train on your contracts or use your content for model training. Our integration is configured so that your data is not used to improve or train OpenAI's models. Your contract content is processed only to serve your request and is not used by us or our providers for training purposes.

6. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We may share data with service providers that help us operate the Service (e.g. hosting, payment processing, email delivery, and OpenAI for analysis as described above). These providers are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

7. Data Retention

We retain account and usage data as needed to provide the Service and comply with legal obligations. Uploaded files are retained only temporarily for processing and then deleted. Scan results (e.g. summaries and red-flag reports) may be stored so you can access your history; you can request deletion of your account and associated data.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and secure infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details provided on our website. You may also delete your account from within the Service where available.

10. Children

The Service is not intended for users under the age of 13 (or higher where required). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Contact

For privacy-related questions or requests, please contact us through the contact information provided on our website or in the Service.
